La Rochelle is a small port town along the coast of Brittany, with beautiful beaches and geographical proximity to the great wine-town of Bordeaux, by the way a natural destination. Once, the seaside town of La Rochelle was called “the rebellious city” because local democracy was introduced very early on, and because people here were predominantly Protestants and not Catholics.
In La Rochelle, most things happen around Port des Minimes. This is one of the world’s largest marinas, and the cafes and restaurants here serve everything from exclusive seafood to real French pancakes.
The city was also the main base for the German submarine fleet during the war, and one of the last places liberated. Three perennial and charming watchtowers from the Middle Ages stand at the entrance to the city, one also used as a prison and lighthouse. The pride of the city is otherwise the town hall, with its towers and walls and richly detailed ornaments. Study life in La Rochelle is not complete without a short bike ride to Ile de Re, a lovely island that has a bridge connection to the city. Bicycles can be rented and on Ile de Re are small, idyllic villages with bustling street life, markets and inviting beaches.

Innkvartering
In host family in single room with breakfast or half board. In July and August there are also opportunities for affordable accommodation in student homes, and all year in apartments of a good standard at a higher price.
